Who We Are
Hi, I’m Williams, the founder of Williams Handmade. Like many artisans, my journey began with a passion for creating something special with my own two hands. What started as a hobby has blossomed into a thriving business dedicated to bringing high-quality, handcrafted items to those who appreciate the beauty of artisanal work.
Our Story
The first item I ever made was a simple leather card holder. I crafted it in my small apartment back in 2015, driven by frustration with mass-produced wallets that never quite met my needs. Using a piece of scrap leather, some thread, and a borrowed set of leatherworking tools, I spent an entire weekend meticulously cutting, stitching, and shaping what would become the prototype for our now-signature Williams Slim Wallet.
That first wallet was far from perfect. The stitches were uneven, and the edges were a bit rough. But when I slipped my cards and cash into it, I felt an immense sense of satisfaction. It was exactly what I had been looking for – slim, functional, and uniquely mine.
Encouraged by this small success, I began making wallets for friends and family. Each piece was an improvement on the last as I refined my techniques and experimented with different leathers and designs. Word spread, and soon friends of friends were reaching out, asking if they could purchase my handmade wallets.
The turning point came when I participated in a local craft fair in 2017. I brought a small collection of wallets, expecting to maybe sell a few. To my surprise, I sold out within the first two hours. People were drawn to the quality of the leather, the careful craftsmanship, and the story behind each piece. Many customers shared their own frustrations with mass-produced accessories, and I realized I wasn’t alone in my quest for well-made, thoughtfully designed leather goods.
Motivated by this success and the connections I’d made, I decided to turn my hobby into a full-fledged business. I invested in better tools, sourced high-quality, sustainably produced leather, and set up a small workshop in my garage. Williams Handmade was officially born.
Since then, we’ve expanded our product line to include a variety of leather goods – from our original wallets to belts, laptop sleeves, and custom-made pieces. But no matter how much we grow, we never forget our roots. Every Williams Slim Wallet we craft is a reminder of where we started and the values we hold dear – quality, functionality, and the beauty of handmade goods.
Today, that first imperfect wallet sits framed on the wall of our workshop. It serves as a constant reminder of our journey and the passion that drives us. It’s a testament to the idea that with dedication, skill, and a genuine love for craftsmanship, a simple handmade item can grow into something much bigger.As I honed my skills, friends and family began requesting custom pieces. Their enthusiasm and support encouraged me to share my creations with a wider audience, and thus, Williams Handmade was born.
